Snapshot of rural life


Cooling off in the river is a simple pleasure out here. The Buffalo river at Ponca is a favorite swimming hole where the locals gather to swim. Recently the county had slated the old bridge to be torn down because the new one was in place and the old one just held up the flow of water when the river’s high.

Everyone protested because to take down the old bridge would have ruined the infrastructure of the swimming hole. After enough public outcry, the demolition project was scrapped.

Pictures of the bridges and some nature shots from upstream are at my homesteading blog, if you’d like to see. I had taken the boys out there to swim a bit Sunday evening.

This is my favorite pic of that set. I like the juxtaposition of the very dense round rock and the dainty damsel fly:
