#amwriting and #revising

I’ve been working on rewriting one of my short stories. I’m afraid by the time I’m done, though, it’s going to be a novella instead of a short story.

Right now, it’s sitting at 6684 words and I’m only halfway done with the revising. It’s going to gain a few more before I’m done, but I’m also cutting a lot, so it might level out to remain about the same. Still a long short.

This one will be entered into the Writers of the Future Q4 contest.

Have you heard of it? Judges include Kevin J. Anderson and Orson Scott Card, among others. It’s free to enter and only open to writers who have not published professionally yet (with a few caveats to define ‘professional’ and how much of what type is allowed).

The deadline is Sept.30 so if you have a fantasy or scifi story you’d like to enter, get on over to the website to read the rules.

My grandbaby is over today but she ought to sleep long enough to get the rest of my other editing task finished. I’m working on Chapter 19 for Symbiosis still. The short story kind of waylaid my novel editing but I don’t want to leave it too much longer so that’s where I’m headed now.

It’s too hot to do anything outside, anyway. My clothes dried on the line overnight, not even any dew to dampen them this morning. And it feels like the Santa Ana winds are blowing here in the Ozarks. Hot, windy and dry!
