Writerly Goal Check

Not much on the goal list for this week. I’m still editing Symbiosis, have a new prologue in place and have gotten good feedback that it is indeed the direction I needed to go.

The main thing I want to pay attention to this week is sleep. I have not been getting to bed early enough to keep my goal of getting up early a manageable thing. I do okay all week but on the weekends I sleep in (if you consider 0700 to be sleeping in) and then on Monday I snooze through my wake-up goal.

Weekly Goals

  • Go to bed by 2130
  • Wake up at 0430
  • edit at least 2 pages per day on Symbiosis

Annual Goals

  • Finish polishing Symbiosis so I can send it on it’s way to the next phase of life
  • Begin readings at a public venue for our local Friday Fictioneers
  • learn to convert to ebook format
  • Compile all the flash I’ve written so far into a collection for Kindle

  1. I already, after just two flash fictions, have had it suggested that I compile a book of just 100 word stories. But then I only had two short stories written when Lou asked me for an anthology.
Best wishes on your weekly goal. My goal is to survive this week. Sad, huh?

  2. That’s awesome Rochelle! Another of our Fictioneers is compiling a book of her flash stories too and I’m looking forward to seeing both of them. I’m not so sure I’ll get around to meeting that goal on my annual list…so far I haven’t made one step toward learning how to Kindle-ize anything, but eventually I want to make a collection too.

  3. Hi Madison, I want to introduce you to the #writemotivation crowd! We’ve been doing this since the first of the year and anyone is more than welcome to join in on the twitter thread. Every other month we check in with our goals and blog about it, if you want to join. Check out my blog and you can sign up over on KT Hanna’s blog. Would love to see more faces! And it’s so much fun to cheer other people on as well as be cheered on! Writing doesn’t have to be a lonely endeavor!

  4. Yes, it totally eliminates the confusion over a.m. / p.m. and I use it at work, plus my fiance’ is on military time so in so many ways it’s just simpler that way. The only thing to muddy the time-waters now is zones.

  5. i read that too fast, and it seemed like at the end was the word “zombies.” so that was funny to think your last sentence said, “the only thing to muddy the time-waters now is zombies.” that was funny.

  6. I have a tendency to stay up late but I’m not very productive then. In the mornings, once I manage to get up, I get a lot more done toward writing. Thanks and good luck with yours too!

  7. Thanks for that introduction, LadyJai. I’ll have to check them out. I forget to sign on and post my #amwriting tweets, but since I’m already blogging my goals the #writemotivation crowd might be easier to stay connected with. Glad you stopped in this morning :)

  8. Good on you for setting such specific goals! The going to bed by a certain time- so important! I’m having a hard time with that one myself, lately, and added making sure I retire “at a decent hour” a part of my own goals this week :) )
Best of luck with all your work (and goals, of course!)

  9. I don’t do well with vague goals or expectations. If someone needs me to do something for them, if they tell me precisely what it is they need, I’m much more likely to get it done to their satisfaction. Same thing applies when I’m doing things for myself. Of course, it’s a lot harder to hide failure that way, hahaha! But that’s par for the course ;) I take the same approach in letting the Universe know my needs or making requests of others. I don’t lay out the *how* it needs to get done, I’m not a micro-manager, but I do know what I want in the end.

Good luck on your goals too! In order to meet my own ‘decent hour’ of retirement, I’m heading to bed very shortly!

  10. Thanks – I already have some HTML know-how, so that makes me feel more confident in learning the ebook formatting!
